Gift a Pair of Wings

Go, fly away my bird,
Today there’s no bar in getting lost
Just fly off.

In the blue envelope of the open skies
The cloud has written secretly
An anonymous letter.

Look, I too have opened my heart’s cage for you
I know you’ll go, so go, fly away, and live happy.
In the blue horizon, if you suddenly remember, then,

Gift a pair of wings
To this friend, fettered in her solitary cell.
My skies too reside in enclosures now,

My captive life dies alone, desolate and suffering—
I wish to fly away, thus with you
Show me, please, the way to lose all, just like you.

Go, fly away my bird
Have no fear today in getting lost
Simply fly off.

*Based on a popular Bengali song ‘Ja Pakhi ure ja na’ sung by Subhomita, Bangla lyrics by Sanjay Banik, music composed by Joy Sarkar.
