The face of God pierced my night
caressed me awake
and set my heart on fire

With a lover's care I was lifted up
and clothed in humble garments

The leaves of my old life trembled
and were cast off by a sudden wind

I wept many tears
my heart pressed out every drop

In the ache of a newborn heart
I first heard the cry of others and
saw their spiritual need

It was God's mercy alone
that tamed my heart
taught me to wait patiently
and listen carefully
as the miracle of spiritual birth unfolds

The first petals are opening
in a new seeker's heart
