As the year melts into another
I turn from 56 to 57
the mind now younger, adventurous
unfettered
the prospect of living life
queen size without appendages
with responsibilities
for one’s own wellness.
The body
to be pampered, cajoled
trained, threatened, checked
to behave
pill-popping sessions for complications
inherited and acquired
guts swirl in acid
a forbidden spicy meal
plead for a probiotic, satvik, gluten-free deal
the palate rebels at the blandness; snacking slyly
every time it’s admonished
old habits made to fade
sugar, salt, starch, oil disappear
waved away by obsessive partner’s magical sleight
alarm shrieks for morning walks
all set for the last quarter
a new regimen spelled out
to rejuvenate refresh, restore
there ain’t no encore
Cheers! To Fifty seven and many more!
