A Dreary Prospect

  More and more it’s happening now,
the future’s a platform for the past;
and where the past runs short of interest,
there’s always the realm of fantasy.

History, both natural and human,
is dug up from the archives and relived;
it seems that’s what time is meant for,
for something to occupy the present.

Fantasy supplements history,
and the TV repeats of classic drama series,
or new versions of the same, ‘War
and Peace’, come back to devour hours.

Will no one see the future is for
reality, and hack away the dross
of the past, of fantasy, to leave fields
to harvest, and not a barren fiction.
