A Fragrant Resonance

Flowers pressed on a summer's day
Lay buried between pages
Smelling of sunshine, bird-calls
Amorous daydreams
Tucked away on a book shelf
Forgotten in the impatient rush of growing years
The fleeting quality of untouched aspirations
In weighing life's advantages and disadvantages
Decades of partial victories and impersonations
A rickety, sapless being
Rediscovers continuity
The scent of bygone youth
In the fragrance of old spaces
The instant bridging of years
Elevated by the feel of adolescence intact
The wrinkles smoothed
The unlined soul reverts
To comfort, stillness and bliss
The song reaches a crescendo
Before the day is done.
