Belongingness

Men want to be a part of that
which is greater than themselves
to fall in line
with the ‘them’ and ‘us’ concept,
dissimilar or similar,
for social inclusion
a desire for identity,
for acceptance or for survival
with a universal intent
to ward off loneliness,
sustain relations,
and motivate themselves
as belongingness is the bridge
between the journey of life and death
whether it is unrequited love,
denial or rejection.

As marginal utility of belongingness
diminishes to non-utility
maybe due to avenues aplenty
for social indulgence,
people seem to long,
consciously or unconsciously
for cognitive merging of self
for sensible belongingness,
enjoy freedom with no fear
by just participating, just flowing
not without a wish
to shield against loneliness,
to sustain intimacy,
power or achievement
or whatever,
a visible shift in reasoning,
a transformative process
takes place quietly.
