Cacophony of the World

I've heard a lot --
the cacophonous words
of the world
that have deafened me,
my ears
with tingling tinnitus
eardrums ruptured with dreams.
I am now dead to the voice
hard of hearing;
only the sweet words
of your love
will be heard forever
through the ears of my heart...

All the moments to follow me
will remain resounding
the joy of the moments cherished
for I am all set
to wear the auditory mask
of green cheerfulness
camouflaging my untold pain,
sullen sadness,
deep despair deepening
inside me
wallowing in sheer sorrow,
hearing all the more
the strange, very scary cries
of this seething world.
