You are long gone
But in a museum of art,
Your painting lives on;
It enchants my heart.

I can see
The love in your eyes;
That's enough for me -
They tell no lies.

If you were to talk,
You'd have a lot to say
To the people who walk
Past you every day.

You lived in France about
Three hundred years ago,
And there's no doubt
A lot you want to know.

Life now is very fast -
We've so little time,
But tell us about the past,
When all seemed sublime.
