Theme: Pollution

Sun Block, Smog and Stunning Alstonia

Smog doggedly blocks the morning healing rays
Nude Gulmohur shivers, but instinctively waits
Sun casts a glance at the fragile twigs of the trees
Despite the haze, mutely follows Sun’s journey

The wind seems to have overslept, perhaps
Pigeons are restless on the concrete ledge
While a bowl of water and seeds seem to invite
Caretaker trudges to turn off the street lights.

Yamuna lies curled-up gasping for breath
Passive smoking has led to lung collapse
The traffic’s moving at the pace of a snail
The roads are choked, all cough, feel frail

Smog smugly hangs grinning till dusk-fall
Stayed up all night, stray dogs got in a brawl
Sweepers have a day off after the feasts
Streets littered with dead crackers and dry leaves

Stunned, watched nature engrossed in day’s work
Alstonia’s lit up at dusk-fall with lime green blossoms
Winter has stepped on stage in a long flannel dress
I take out a wood floral scarf, wrap it around my neck

Am somehow compelled to study with intent
Why in quest of joy, we indulge and feel spent.

Comment Typical lovely thoughts of a nature poet; the concluding line brings out poet's philosophy. Glad to see your composition, Mamta.
