Of the 3 modes of nature, 'Tamas', is well defined here. The biggest attribute next only to ignorance is lethargy, or stupor. The purpose of human life is of not much consequence for those choosing to stay in closed confines, perhaps even protected comforts: unless one is willing to come our to experience and detour. But nature makes deep inroads in character and behavior.
