A pink-red rose
long-stemmed

wriggling like
a shrivelled-up line
across the blank
diary-page, slightly aflutter:
both
kept on a writing-desk

near the window
that opens over
the dusty courtyard
filled with twisted iron
and rusted metal

...and yellow grass.
