We Need One Another

Whom do we mourn and how many?
Whom do we pray for?
The world — we belong to it
This is no time to ask blessings
just for ourselves and our loved ones

Suffering, death, pain have besieged humanity
they were always around. But now
their intensity, intimacy are more frequent
as helplessly we wonder – who and what next?
It is time we understand and accept the universal truth —
so long as there is life there will be death

It has always been so. Will that make us
callous, indifferent? No. It will not even ease
the pain of loss. Yet in acceptance will be peace
In that peace will be strength to carry on...
to be grateful for each new day’s blessings
