An Unfinished Poem....

Silence teaches you
The alphabets of cloud and sky
And birds on wings
From tree to tree
And mother tongue of empty roads
Of whispering dialects
Of towering trees
Singing the lament of the winds.

Silence teaches you
The syllables of dry river-beds
Amid the endless applause
Of rocks
The broken vowels of the cracked earth
Licked by the parched tongues of winds
The idiom of twisted roots
Spreading their bare branches
Against the mute skies.

Silence is
A crow calling on empty afternoons
Empty corridors with memories
Of footsteps
A wooden gate
Swinging on its hinges

Silence is
The muffled drone of trucks
And the idling engines of afternoons
Throttled by evening shadows....
