It's French To Me

Desire of crossing seven seas
Drifted my childhood mind-
And pull became stronger with growth,
Now as I seem to find!
Diary notes of formative years
Show the chronological order-
And remind me how and when
I crossed motherland's border!

Adapted land opened up
The new horizons for me-
And energized my soul to travel
Every nook of Earth and sea!
Meeting friends in all continents
Is now a thing of distant past-
When I walk on memory lanes,
After lunch, dinner, or breakfast!

Friendly encounter in Paris
Is still vivid after thirty years-
And reminds the gourmet dinner
With meat, croissant, and cheers!
Toast with the host was warm,
And strung a chord on my nerve-
Followed by the beauty of waitress,
Who was delighted to serve!

We talked about society and diversity
That float always around us-
Regardless of our language barrier,
We did not fuss!
Renewal of friendship went well
With our learning of language-
And we were so overwhelmed
To forget our own age!

Just before departure for U.S.,
My friend asked me with a chuckle-
Can you spell 'Croissant'
While you tighten the belt buckle?
With a green on my face,
I handed him the key-
To drive me to the airport,
And I told: It's French to me!
