Gaza

Someone posted
burning images of Gaza
subjected to relentless bombing.

He asked the world
“Did you sleep well?”

Yes, I slept well,
but that thought hurts,
am no hypocrite.

Let us not debate
how it all began;
that takes us nowhere
but only to more heat and hate.

We are all so accustomed
to blood, chaos and conflagration
and we do sleep,
peacefully so,
if all that is away from our door.

Some philosopher mused,
of the East he is for sure,
the world resides in you;
the pain you see
and moves you to trauma
is your inherent karma;
cleanse yourself therefore
if you are
to earn a cleaner world
than the one before your eyes.

We don’t pause to think
but get out on the roads,
ask for justice.
Alas, there is no one there
to grant us what we want;
Gaza burns without respite.

To prayers therefore
I surrender.
Prayers, prayers and prayers,
perhaps, when I reopen my eyes
the world might smile,
no more blood smears,
bombing fires
and a looming apocalypse.

God bless us all,
whether He is named
Allah or the Lord;
He is there in all of us
shining without a pause,
the one and only Cause,
lay your arms and prostrate
wherever you are.

Amen and Alhamdulillah!
