I sat next to a gentleman on a sofa while my wife Meera was selecting
A saree at a textile shop. I saw a little girl reciting
Nursery rhymes and running around holding
The sarees displayed, as though she was dancing
Like a heroine in a garden where the flowers were blooming.
The gentleman who was sitting
Next to me, called the girl and said: Do not keep running
As if it is our house, and do not keep pulling
The displayed sarees. Then the girl came running
To him and said, “Look at this uncle" pointing
At me, "he is also reciting and appreciating
My dance, better learn from him to appreciate me while I am displaying
Talent" and she went back to what she was doing.
The gentleman felt embarrassed and was staring
At me as though I was responsible for pampering
Her and not heeding his admonishing.
Meanwhile, Meera finished her shopping.
I left the place cherishing the memory. |
