What a dream, a yearning, A privilege to be distinguished By one's own effort Amidst the fusty odor of clothes and books! Here you have an opportunity To imbibe a liberal tradition, Select a philosopher and then Work diligently towards an end. There is a tradition of a thousand years Within the tree of knowledge, From medieval to post-enlightenment, That just can't go wrong! But remember, an impudent skirmish With the cultures of the world And their strange cosmologies May leave you naked and dispossessed! You might then feel that you're Directing the thoughts and actions Of the world you live in Through somewhat inflated categories.
