The appearance of beauty in nature
is as much an illusion as God the creator,
whose separate features unwittingly
attain unity of effect.

If the sky is blue, clouds white, trees green
what makes these harmonize
owes to their common root
of existence, whose outcome is life.

It is in perception, after all, that beauty
arises, and all the sharp instruments
of nature, structured and painted
to serve needs, conjoin to please.

An epi-phenomenon are the elements
of beauty, separate roles turned
momentous together the forms ring out
'Creation!' hypostatized to art.
