There is in nature this observation
that it is about an ascent of life,
but on the level of the individual
it is about survival, and that
survival is the expression of need.
Anything comes to being as both
needing and needed - green plants need
carbon dioxide and light, which
provides the oxygen for animal breath;
ecosystems, the expression of need.
Thus so the earth was formed in space
needing to be and needed - can one speak
of non-living need? - determinative of
exact proportions, precise solar orbit,
to fulfill in time the expression of need
of living things! - but that these serve
the same cause, right up the tree of life
in all its phases, a need being served,
determining the precise form emergent
to evidence the expression of need.
Evolution as a theory mentions not
need, but need is its metonym;
going right back to the beginning of time
what need was there, initiated
to what expression of need?
