The streets remain deserted
Children watch anxiously from behind curtains
Where will all this violence lead?
What kind of hatred in future generations will it breed?
The Dalits appear to be an angry lot
Vying with each other just to spot
The culprit who desecrated their leader's statue
But is that the real reason or just another false virtue?
Their intent to destroy is so strong
That they will across India walk the extra furlong
In the hope that they will more supporters find
We can only hope that their following does not remain blind
That the educated population goes up in arms
And raises all the right and timely alarms
Against this blatant attempt to cause unnecessary terror
In a city that is always sensitive to religious fervor
We are not the only ones to see through the disguise
The responsible press and cognoscenti realize
That this is only an attempt to get cheap publicity
To mislead the common man with audacity
So that he falsely led in to believing
That these self appointed watchdogs are not thieving
We need therefore to quickly educate the illiterate masses
So that they do not fall victim to self-serving asses
