Woman's Measure

  You, you or you -
give me mostly
what you say, I deserve.
Little more than
what I never ask for
or little less
than my craving.

I am a refined inert --
an optimum substance.
When was it last I asked you
to measure my worth?
Or see through my impressions?

When did I last persist:
stop, don't go away,
have a look - a second glance?

The vision may convey
a lot without words
only you need
an eye to see through.

I can still count on
your neglect
as an innate innocence
or my insistence
as a ploy for attention,
but do acknowledge
my substance
in the correct measure
of its needs and nature.
