Drawn from the future, the axiom
Of a calendar display.
The world started billions of years ago,
Already, it’s today; and many a kingdom,
Many an empire that thrived on tomorrow
Never dreamt today would come.
For as today itself ends, today begins,
And gives the logic of events
Momentum, today that reckons
A date of significance.
For is it not today a king is crowned,
Or dies, an army defeats another on a
Battlefield? Is it not today found
A star, a planet, an America?
And today, do we not view past lives
Between two respective dates; our own
Future of days, license that derives
From the latter today being unknown?
