The Tree Stump

  I wish to fly
Up in the sky
Where a bird glides like a boat
Like flecks of clouds lazily float.

Alas my body
My arm and leg
Leaden with palsy
Stays on earth
Like a tree stump
Since birth.

The tree stump
My body of lump
Permeates the earth
In deep roots.
Both stay grounded
Feet adorned
As if in sturdy boots.

I beg you earth
Set me free
Let go of the roots
And let me be.
My mind and soul
Have flown away
I know not why
My body must stay rooted.
