A Politician's Plight

As he stepped onto the podium
To make what he thought would be
A path-breaking and welcome speech
On political reform in the country,
He faced a barrage of salty questions
Which he fielded with his usual panache
But no one seemed to trust him at all
Anger replaced any genuine interest
In the announcements he was to make and
Before he realised what was happening
An over-ripe tomato hit his plump face
Followed by some eggs on his bald head
All this took place in a matter of seconds
Clearly indicating his sharp fall from grace
He was then literally escorted off the stage
To avoid any more food items being aimed
At his more than his ample anatomy, but not
Before he swore to pass stringent laws against
What he called the use of edible weapons
To destroy a VIP's dignity and clothing......
