  Christ being who he is
and what he stands for
provides a sort of constant
in the effigy.

The capacity for the lifeless
to be the prop to life
is the key to every structure.
The city is recognizable in feature,
every building, space, street-corner,
patently sustainable,
the dweller's eye intently
scrutinizes for mood.

Christ the Redeemer,
likewise, looms above
the city of Rio.
Dead white stone
cast to an impressive height.
Outstretched arms
become of a giant Savior;
but in the stone is stalled,
the same which might
form the pediment
or the buildings spread below,
reflecting life,
the structure of behavior.
