I Shall Not Meditate

  I shall not chant
the names of Shiva, Buddha, Mahaveera,
Jesus, Allah, Nanak ji or any other either,
for I see them all in a child’s smile
and in the warm tears of the poor…

Instead I shall wear a smiling face,
search for equivalent words of kindness,
look beyond me with a kind gaze
the fears, sorrows and agony
from the hearts of my fellow men to erase…

I shall not meditate upon you, my Lord!
Love, peace and compassion shall be
the sharp edge of my fierce sword -
I shall not meditate upon you, my Lord!
