Betrayal of the Eyes

What did that look on your face mean?
I ceased to interpret it
Was it a flicker of recognition?
was it a hidden desire?
A longing for the past?
A remembrance?
Or was it indifference?
Was it bliss which you found in our separation?
The flowers of love that you crushed?
The happiness in your new found freedom?
and in my pain?
Suddenly you drop your gaze
Is it due to regret?
or shame?
Perhaps due to anguish?

Your eyes were locked with mine only for a few seconds...
Why does it seem like a lifetime
an entire lifetime?
