Theme: Love

Abuse is Sweet, Too!

Decades back
on a lovely Friday morn
mother led us to visit
goddess Lakshmi;
when you, no less than a deity,
marched behind her,
giving me an opportunity
to close in and give you a new pinch

Turning back and with eyes red
you almost chewed the words,
'Have you lost your head,
no sense of time and place,
stupid, in mother's presence
don't be naughty!'

That dose was sweet,
more tender, less harsh,
your angry face
exuded delightful grace...

Years after
in the first drizzle of the monsoon,
when I pulled your tress - wet and loose,
you turned round to abuse,
'I have no time to play,
and you silly, behave, you are no more a boy!
I must get home soon,
the child is alone at home,
must be hungry, it is noon.'

This dose was sweet, too.
Inadvertently didn't she say,
'I love you...'
