A Little Night Music

  I was in bed,
Going to sleep;
What was in my head
Weren’t thoughts of sheep
But the sound of rain,
Its rhythm and beat;
Like a fast train,
Its tempo was a treat.
It was music to my ears,
My body, my mind;
It washed my fears,
And left peace behind.
The rain kept falling
But attention I couldn’t pay:
Sleep was calling,
So I dozed away.
