Theme: Anguish

A Serious Dilemma

Early one Monday morning
standing on the rooftop
he debates within himself
"to be or not to be"-
should he decide to live
he needs to descend
by the staircase quickly
should he decide otherwise
he needs to take the
alternate route by jumping off
the large adjoining parapet
the question plagues him
he is a very worried person
are his troubles that serious
that he needs to take
the drastic and dramatic route
or can he cogitate a bit longer
trying to find solutions
should he walk down
the six floor stairway to
be able to think clearly about
the possibility of staying alive
at this critical moment
in his young and troubled life
he is rudely awakened
from his reverie by a loud voice
"Johnny what the hell are you doing
on the rooftop you will be late for school"

Comment Moving poem. Statistically, bullying at school accounts for most child suicides, coupled with the fact that parents are unaware (last two lines of your poem) of the psychological damage being done to the child, until it is too late.
