The Bikini and the Burqa
|
by Sharbaaniranjan Kundu |
|
|
It is often felt burqa does not go well in today's world
but smart women in Delhi have learnt naqab's benefit!
Astride on a motorcycle, jeans and tight shirt clad women
will wrap around an odhni on the head and a face,
purportedly to stop air-barrage and dust.
But is it really so?
No sir, it stops tongue wagging from people
who is with whom?!
No questions can be asked.
Relationships grow in a society sandwiched between
conservatism and modernity.
Ingenuity indeed!
Delhi has concrete villages
but traditional in mores.
A woman in a bermuda crossing a road
completely facially wrapped
baring the eyes.
Nobody would know who she is.
So modern world,
do not consider burqa backdated.
It has its benefits.
Modernity does not mean
bikini clad women
in pages of tabloid or page three
and music shows!
Is the modern world world listening?

The first time around I got you. But this time around I do not get you. Are you agreeing to what peeped in my mind, the reason for penning my poem? Or, was I totally wrong?

Yes, it is really so "purportedly to stop air-barrage and dust. But is it really so?" no matter how fake it may appear!

Thank you. This never occured to me.

Guess this dupatta protects from the harsh rays in both ways...It has been researched that the sun rays direct on skin from 10 am to 15pm can trigger skin cancer! Thus there is a good reason to protect the face...
