Durga -
Demolisher of devil
Unicorn of virginity
Renouncer of sin
Grandeur of divine
Angel of the godly Ma
Dignity incarnate.

Alas! I’m the untouchable
With years of sin and crime;
Before my eyes, I survey blood and blood
On my back full of failure
On my head full of derision I’m drunken
The wine of disparity and disunity
Contaminating my nerves.

I’m Kandhamal*
I have seen
The brutal murder of a saint
The rape of a nun.
I’m India
I have seen serial blasts
Dismembered bodies of babies, men and women.

I'm the world
I have seen
Massacre in Afghanistan
War in Iraq
Terrors in Pakistan
Fight for religion
I shudder in fear
Unable to touch you,
I cry in fear Unable to kiss you.

Oh Ma! I can’t...
I kneel before thee, I fold my shameful palms
I offer myself Sacrifice
For the world.

*(It is a district in Odisha where uncontrollable riot threatened the peace for some months during 2008.)
