Fighting for Principles

I could never live upto my ideals.
Everybody around was so unresponsive,
and sometimes hostile.

At the fag-end of my career
from nowhere
I have got a colleague
who I got the opportunity to groom.
He repaid me
by fighting with everybody
who slandered me.

Finally I got a student trainee
who would do everything
I always wanted to do.

So I have no regrets.
My detractors are no longer in the scene.

Though I could never achieve
all I wanted,
but because I guarded the lamp of principles
going out in the blizzard of self-aggrandisement
at the fag-end of my career
I have a young colleague
and a student trainee
who will carry my torch.

It is a vindication
of what I stood for.
It is my win after all.
