Mark the dragon
He will come stalking at daybreak
Leering with his claws curled
Rearing to take to the sky
Or diving into the oceans
To show his prowess!

He will entice you with hopes
Of becoming like him
Fix you in the eye
With a sharp tongue
Perorate his heroic deeds
In serpentine tongue,

And if you follow him
He will take you through
Cartographic maps of the
Eighteenth and
Nineteenth centuries
To point out his abode,

Where he will
Show you how to
Control the rain,
The hurricane,
Even the weather
And the floods.

He will give you hope
To aspire for kingship
Or become a deity
Through sublime thoughts,
Magical patience,
And perseverance,

But you must use his dexterity,
His nimbleness and prowess,
To your advantage
Lest he force you to sit in the dark,
Make you eat nothing, and
Just spit fire!
