Wounded, Broken

  They say time heals,
I say time only brings new things,
For man is broken only but once,
Robbed of innocence at the first hit,

And……..
When the fangs have sunk,
And the claws have torn,
When the venom has been spat,
And the blood has been drawn,

Then……..
We carry around a wound,
That hurts with every disappointment,
We learn to be shy and to play safe,
We win in some and lose to others,

But……..
A wounded heart in time can be soothed,
With kindness and love, music and laughter,
But a broken spirit no one can bear!
It is worse than a slow death!
