Sleeping on bed
Her head on my chest
Under my dimpled chin
I was lost and embraced
By the thoughts of the future
With a cursory look
At my painful present!

Pangs of ailing body
Eyesight dimmed
And loss of the ears
Stammering tongues
Clutched by Alzheimer’s
I was trying to get rid of
my circumstantial plight
With my cramping legs -
Staggering steps to the grave!
