The Bare Tree

A crow sits
On a naked branch
Of a stunted tree
Bereft of leaves -
A striking oddity,
This tree,
In a monsoon-Mumbai
Of July-August,
A ripe time
When
Others are proudly
Wearing their fresh
Green apparels,
Stitched by the
Rejuvenating rains,
While this little one
Stands bare,
And stripped,
And mute,
In this season
Of the natural plenty,
Like a tramp,
Amid the
Gleaming high-rises,
Standing
On a Paris,
London,
Madrid,
Mumbai street.
