Silver Lining

by Dr. Jaipal Singh

Year after year
Over last six decades
Euphoria generates around
The Independence and Republic days
National and patriotic flavours
Films, rallies, debates and songs
Fascinating resolutions
And emotional appeals.

Heat and dust generated
Dies down as fast
And majority are back to
Once again the favourite
Themes and slogans of greed -
Cast, creed, religion and region
For personal, social and economic
Benefits and needs.

The only silver lining remains
Perhaps the contemporary youth
In cities and villages as well
With the modern education and learning
Many of them are able to see
Beyond the sectoral attributes
Maybe for their own reasons of
Friendship and love, or lust as well
A blessing in disguise
To overcome and eradicate social evils
Paving way for bonding
And union based on love for
Own language and motherland.
