From every corner of the sky
With a steady gaze
You are looking at me day and night
Your vigil will be fruitful
Only when I shall open my eyes
The whole world waits counting
For that auspicious moment.

The blooming of the spring flowers will be meaningless
If my lone bud doesn’t blossom
Your lighting of endless worlds
And the shining of the countless stars
Will find their purpose
Only when I shall be no longer in the dark.

Translation of the devotional song – Tumi je cheye achho akash bhore – from the collection Gitimalya (80) by Rabindranath Tagore. Composed at Santiniketan on 13th Chaitra, 1320 BS (27th March, 1914).
