Of women, children and elderly persons
Remain the real issue and challenge
In the healthy development and growth
Of the emerging Indian democratic nation
That the law makers,
The law enforcing agencies,
NGOs and the common citizens
Have to face and effectively deal with
In the ensuing days and years to come...
The heinous crime committed
By the subhuman monsters
A fortnight back in the national capital
Against the deceased braveheart
Who in the early hours today breathed her last
Would remain a lifetime shock for the family
And an eyeopener for the civil society
Heart of every sensible person bleeds
For the plight of the victim and bereaved.
This reminds me of the small news item
Away from the national media coverage
A day preceding this unprecedented crime
A minor girl aged sixteen years in a small town
A month back raped by a rowdy man
Was now brutally strangulated to death
By the same criminal in broad daylight
Because the family of the aggrieved
Ventured to lodge a complaint in police
But the system treated it a routine matter
Failed to timely act against the offender
Besides security and protection to the bereaved.
Insensitivity of law and complex procedures
Cry of the innocent lambs goes on unabated.
