My Heart is as Black as Coal

The years of rejection and loneliness have taken their toll.
I have a heart in my chest but it's as black as coal.
I've received face to face rejections and rejection letters.
Because I'm poor, those women thought they could do better.
If you cut open my chest, you won't find a heart but a stone instead.
The rejections eat away at my soul because I have nobody to love,
I might as well be dead.
