When media and a large chunk of illogical people are aghast
because of the spot-fixing betting scandal of the Indian Premier League,
I am not too perturbed,
for I never much approved
the cocktail of cricket, showbiz and commerce.
There are too many problems in India:
malnutrition, girl child foetus abortion,
poverty, unavailability of two square meals
for a large chunk of the population,
illiteracy, unemployment, superstitions,
severe lack of sanitary and health facilities,
how many more shall I narrate...!!!
And to just push them under the carpet
and squander thousands and thousands of crores
in an amphitheatrical bat-ball-wicket sport
it is just criminal!
So if the betting scandal
sounds the death knell to money and time squandering IPL,
I shall not be too unhappy.
Leaders of Indian society,
absolve yourself of this criminal disorientation
and concentrate on the genuine requirements
of the Indian population!
The Nation owes this to you,
the luckier of the lot!
Love thy country,
love its people
and give what the country genuinely needs!
Not the raw pleasure
of an IPL match.
