Not Only A Song
|
by Kumud Biswas |
|
|
This is not only my song
This is my love for you
As also my pain for your indifference I feel
Perhaps you will forget its words
And throw away this garland I gave
But let me tell you
My love sought nothing from you in return
Today you may not understand
What I want to tell you through this song
When from me far away you’ll be gone
Perhaps one day like the spring
You will come back to my world
And you will find
The stream once flowing full
Is now lost in the desert sand.
Transcreation of one of the sweetest modern Bengali love songs – Eto noy sudhu gan/E jeno amar kichhu anurag ar kichhu abhiman – which almost overnight made its singer, Dipak Moitra, a celebrity but unfortunately he died shortly after this song was first released by His Master’s Voice in 1957. |

In 1958 when only 15 and a first year college student I heard this song, dear Rupradha. It still haunts me. It is really very romantic.
