Four Seasons and Stages of Life

  Spring - Childhood

When Spring is in the air,
There’s no brooding or care.
Just as spring flowers spread fragrance,
A child exudes purity and innocence.

A child has a spring in his walk,
In his childish prattle and talk.

Spring and a child -
Both gentle and mild,
Have a soothing effect
And all depressions deflect.

Just as spring is all about things bright and beautiful,
Childhood is all about innocence and pranks plentiful!

Summer – Youth

Like summer at its best -
Hot, hotter or hottest,
Youth too sizzles.
With ideas, it bristles.

Hot under the collar,
Always ready to holler
In joy or in protest,
Demanding the best.

Youth is about dynamism.
Youth is about idealism.
Youth is about expectations.
Youth is about new ideations.
Youth is about clear choice.
Youth is about raising voice.

Youth is about love at first sight.
Youth is about always being right.
Youth is all about lights burning bright.
Like summer is all about heat and light.

Autumn – Middle Age

Autumn – quiet, serene and sedate,
Yet carries a bit of winter and spring in its fate...

Middle age is about career options and advancements.
Middle age is about office politics and pay enhancements.
Middle age comes with responsibilities at home and work.
Middle age comes with commitments you can’t afford to shirk!

Middle age makes one quiet, serene and sedate.
It certainly makes one seek stability at any rate.

Your children argue and hark you back to your own days,
Yet sometimes, you are unable to adjust to their ways.

Falling leaves of autumn are a gentle reminder
As the balding pate of middle age too is a reminder...
Middle age is a major and important milestone
When you cannot
just think of yourself alone!

Winter – Old Age

Winter – dull, dark and cold
One feels safe in the rug’s fold...
Winter of life means being old
When little seems in one’s hold...

Falling hair…
Vision unfair…
Wobbly gait…
Ungainly weight…

Lines on face
Hard to erase…
Sunken cheeks…
Grey hair peeks..!

Aching knee joints…
Painful pressure points...
Frozen shoulders...
Feel like boulders...

Painful neck
Nervous wreck...
Aching lower back…
Energy levels slack…

Sometimes name eludes the face...
Sometimes face eludes the name...
The more mind tries to recall,
Memory treats it an order tall..!

Teeth without any teeth …
Voice without any voice …
A body without anybody…
And life without any life …

Life is on 'cause one breathes...
Till it’s time for some wreaths…
Winter – dull, dark and depressing
Old age means slowly, surely egressing...

Comment Padmaja,

A gem of a poem, oozing with wisdom.

You have done a great job comparing the four seasons with four stages of life.

A masterpiece!
