Eye Bags

Even if I rub
these heavy eyes
with hard luckless palms
I cannot squeeze
tears in proportion
to my pain.

At my age
tears have a set route,
they fall straight into
your lap
as you are left
with no cheek
for them to roll.

What do you do
when your eye bags
run dry?
You are caught
between a terrible
lack of laughter
and a dry grief.

This is exactly where
heart failure succeeds.
