Future Imperfect

A relationship without a future,
Can be a terrible mental torture
As it meanders meaninglessly,
And prolongs quite senselessly.

A relationship without a future,
Spreads bitterness like cancer,
As extraneous influences override,
The couple’s capabilities to decide.

A relationship without a future,
Is really very difficult to nurture,
As it drags on due to compulsions
Societal, family and children....

So necessary is objectivity.
So important is sensitivity.
So crucial is introspection,
To arrive at right decision.

At the end of it all,
One has to hear the inner call,
To continue with the torture,
Or move on for a better future.

Padmajaji, human relationship is a complex subject. Of course, one facet of such relationship you have very aptly and meticulously projected in this poem. I particularly liked second last stanza - So necessary is....

The other facet of human relationship is that a relationship without a future may not essentially be terrible or drag in all cases. What kind of future we are looking for itself varies from person to person and case to case. Mostly problem starts with the level of expectations and how much we are ready to give or take...Some of the relationships without a future in terms of 'give' or 'take' could be very beautiful and inspiring too in life. You may not live or share life together yet you always feel good and are willing to do good for the relationship.
