On a trip to Richmond, arriving there,
everything falls into place with an air
of detachment, you could be anyone,

any combination of persons there;
though everyone is out, there is an air
of infinite accommodation.

As you walk, space opens before you there,
the sloping green etched with flowers, the bright air
over the ranging trees like a curtain

drawn; never far from view the river there,
the R in Richmond a personal air
bestowing, a flash in the shaded scene.
