A link
between now and the times gone by
climbing up
sliding down the banister
light shining in the passage
reflecting in amber eyes
giggles resonating on flagstones
fragrance wafting down the staircase
of smiles, laughter and good times
of reckless abandon
rhythm of a bubbling stream
chugging of a locomotive
acting as a lullaby.
Wearily I came down
to see the house on sale
the deed signed, the booty shared
the past erased by consent
one more chapter closed
one more lane erased
one more address struck off
in the shrinking list
of life.
