Nostalgia

The whistling train
Jhuk-jhuk, jhuk-jhuk
Running by our cottage
Wakes me early in the morn
Leaving behind trail of memories
To brood upon,

Your face mirrors
In the thin air in front
Reflecting in those dew-drops
On the window pane,
I see rosy smile inviting
When you open your eyes
And shadows darken your cheeks
When your eyelids droop down,

No dear, don't complain
That I didn't do my best
To keep the cheer alive,
It was not I
But the economic complexities
That compelled me to exchange
Dollar for your smile,

And since then
This whistling train
Jhuk-jhuk, jhuk-jhuk
Running by our cottage
Wakes me up each morn
Dejected, with the memories
Of our once cohesive life
That stands shattered
Now that you are gone!
