A Cup of Tea

When the world’s counterblows
drive you into a corner
when the mind surges like the sea
and becomes a wave without direction

at that precise moment
set aside the needless hurry
turn to the stove
and let a cup of tea come to the boil.

From its fragrance-laden steam
a subtle, unseen magic rises.

In that mild, measured taste
lies a comfort
that holds a person upright.

Moments that arrived
laden with weight
slowly dissolve
like sugar melting
and disappear
somewhere into emptiness.

Then the world
unfolds before your eyes
becomes worthy of being seen again.

Then you remember
there is beauty in life
there is such a thing as success.

All this
because you paused for a moment
boiled a cup of tea
and took
a single sip.
